Cefic is the Brussels-based organization representing the European chemical industry. Since its creation in 1972, Cefic has grown to become one of the largest and most efficient advocacy network amongst the industry trade organizations in Europe and in the world.
It directly or indirectly represents approximately 29,000 large, medium and small enterprises employing over 1.3 million personnel and accounting for almost one third of worldwide chemical production.
For several years now, interactive communication has been established at CEFIC as the favoured mode of exchange at the very heart of the organisation (Intranet), both for informing and collaborating with its members (Extranets and collaborative platforms) as well as for general public communications (websites). In order to allow easier and more coherent access to and management of this bundle of tools and the information produced by and for its network, CEFIC needs to not only improve the general ergonomics and navigation within and between the tools, but also to centralise the management of security levels.
Single Sign-On is a unique authentication system enabling users to move from one application to another without having to identify themselves each time. It constitutes the cornerstone of the CEFIC information system and, by facilitating access from one application to another, it permits enhanced integration of the different applications and improved cross-referencing of the data.
The CEFIC portal is THE Extranet system. It's the entry point for members to all of the applications and important information.
This system is designed to improve the process of collection and consolidation of information from the National Associations concerning, for example, the environment, transport, and health.
The ICE project uses anExtranet for the cooperative management of Europe's chemical industry companies, so that rapid assistance can be provided in the event of an accident involving chemical substances. Consequently, it consists of comprehensive knowledge, by country and by company, of the toxic substances being used and the centres responsible for dealing with such incidents.
The Q&A module offers all necessary functionality for the management of a knowledge base for the questions and answers put by members to the Reach experts. In essence, it amounts to a specific interface for the management of the responses, their moderation, the creation of associated forums, etc.
